Here is a special case in honor of Valentines day. The following section of lung was removed due to the presence of a nodule that mimicked a lung carcinoma. However, on sectioning and H&E staining, the following was seen. Identification?
Bonus question - what does this case have to do with Valentines day???
Dirofilaria immitis. The dog HEART worm!

I like the heart pattern in the lung section that is the background. Because of the hooklet it looks like a cestode.
ReplyDeleteWe conclude that this is a heart worm which has been thrown out of the heart and into the lung where it has led to an infarct. nice case.
ReplyDeleteI see the thick cuticle but internal morphology does not look like Dirofilaria seen in the text books. Good cse and cant wait for the answer
