Case of the Week 262

The following were seen in fresh bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid.  The individual objects measured approximately 15 microns in diameter:

    These objects seem to be the ciliary linings cells of the respiratory system. The given dimensions and morphology are not compatible with ciliated human parasites.

    The common cytology classical name for the larger groups is creola body and they are said to be typical of asthma which I would take with a grain of salt.
