Here is our monthly case from Idzi Potters and the
Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp. The following were seen in a direct wet preparation of an unfixed stool specimen from a patient with bloody diarrhea and recent travel to sub-Saharan Africa. The objects in question measure approximately 20 micrometers long. Identification?
Entamoeba histolytica trophozoites with phagocytosis of erythrocytes
ReplyDeleteThis amoeba trophozoite is phagocytosing red cells, the identity should be E. histolytica. Beautiful case Idzi. Working only with fixed fecal samples deprives us of such dramatic findings.
ReplyDeleteFlorida Fan
Agree with E. histolytica, magna form, with two red passengers.
ReplyDeleteEntamoeba histolytica, trofozoite ematofago. BELLISSIMO FILMATO, grazie Izdi :-)
ReplyDeleteIdzi, pardon ! :-)
ReplyDeleteNo problem! Thanks Sir Galahad!
ReplyDeleteI was just the lucky bystander, with a camera at hand, ready to roll... ;-)
And indeed Florida Fan, also in our lab, more and more samples are being sent by mail (and therefore fixed), so these nice images become more and more exceptional...
