Case of the Week 617

 Here is our monthly case from Idzi Potters and the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp. The following were seen in a stool specimens in a patient with diarrhea and recent travel to sub-Saharan Africa.

  5. Beautiful Cystoisospora belli! Idzi, as Kamran stated they autofluoresce under UV microscopy too.
    We routinely use this characteristic to confirm our light microscopy findings as it is quick and convenient.

  9. A beautifully stained unsporulated Cystoisospora belli oocyst. It would have been nice to see it with modified acid-fast stain.
