This week's case is a nice straight-forward one because - spoiler alert - we are going to have a really fun challenge from Idzi Potters next week to start off our new year.
The following worm was found during routine colonoscopy. Identification? For 'extra credit' - which end is anterior? And is this a male or female?
Very Trichy as to not be too tricky…
ReplyDeleteIt's Tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time. It's tricky...Tr-tr-tr-trichy

Snidley Whiplash laughed at pain
ReplyDeleteBut this wormy infection caused him a new bane
When he started his heartiest laugh
He was startled by a rectal prolapse
Whip worm. Thin is head. Female
ReplyDeleteOf course, thin is his head
ReplyDeleteYet he holds his gender in his curved tail.
The Romans used to say “In cauda venenum”
He holds his spicule just like a scorpion that makes all yell.

ReplyDeleteIt's a marvelous Trichuris trichiura - or trichocephalus, or whipworm! Because of the presence of testes and the shape of the tail, I would suggest this is a male. The head is the thin portion, and the stichosome is clearly visible.
