Case of the Week 708

We're on a roll with parasites in muscle biopsies! Here is one from my archives. No history, but the findings are classic. Diagnosis? How is this different from the muscle parasites in the last 2 cases?

  2. A nematode coiled up into a spiral inside a cyst. Did it come up from a bear, a Polynesian boar or an animal from the Middle East?
Certainly the host must have eaten under cooked meat. Anyway, the worm is Trichinella and for lack of the infectious meat source, shall we just say Trichinosis? We can from the literature say that it didn’t come from a crocodile. Beautiful case indeed.
