Dear Readers,
Greetings from Japan! This week's case is from my tissue archives and features a subcutaneous nodule removed from the abdominal wall of a patient from rural Liberia. HERE is the whole slide scanned image. The following are a few representative images from this case; however, I encourage you to check out the digital slide yourself! What is your diagnosis?

Onchocercoma with adult O.volvulus and uterus containing microfilaria.
Onchocerca volvulus adult female with paired uteri packed with microfilariae. On the more longitudinal sections, one can even nicely appreciate the transverse ridging. In some of the cross-sections, the musculature and lateral chords can be observed. In the tissue, also migrating microfilariae can be seen.
Very nice images! I just love the whole slide image technology!
Thank you everyone for the teachings. Living in the USA has the benefit of being fairly free from parasitic infections and as a result, our knowledge of parasites is fairly limited if not taught by experts like Dr. Pritt and you all. The Blog broadcasts the knowledge to the world just like the phrase of the French Dictionaire Larousse:”Je sème à tous vents ».

I don't have training reading slides like this, but I think maybe Onchocerca or Loa Loa.
As Florida Fan noted, I've learned more from this blog and comments that from any book. Truly a blessing to learn from everyone and Dr. Pritt.
