Case of the Week 273

The following were seen in the stool of a 15 year old autistic female with long standing constipation and were submitted for parasitic identification. The objects measure several centimeters in length.

How would you sign this case out?

Not a parasite. Some sort of cast? Any history of pica...perhaps Elmer's glue?

"The object submitted is morphologically compatible with psyllium husk cast".
Psyllium husk is indigestible fibers and is used to provide volume or bulk in patients with constipation.
These casts are categorized as pseudo parasites together with other objects submitted as a result of delusional parasitosis.
