Case of the Week 64

The following parasites were obtained from a skin scraping of a man with an itchy maculopapular rash. His dog had a similar rash. These organisms measure approximately 300 um x 400 um. Although it is difficult to make out all of the features, you can intermittently see the anterior spine-like legs. Identification?

some kind of mite is the best I can put forth . . . causing, as Deb used to say, an arthropod "assault"

Sarcoptes scabiei, the scabies mite. But if his dog also has mange, possibly some other related scab mite? Can't remember if they infest dogs - pigs definitely!
