These are Charcot-Leyden crystals. They're the breakdown prducts of eosinophils and are often present in people with allergic conditions or tissue-invading parasites.
Charcot-Leyden crystals as breakdown products of eosinophils by inference in stool would suggest a parasitic infection but I'll be curious as to sensitivity/specificity. We don't see them very often or ever in stool; sometimes in sputum.
Every week I will post a new Case, along with the answer to the previous case. Please feel free to write in with your answers, comments, and questions. Also check out my image archive website at http://parasitewonders.com. Enjoy!

They are Charcot-Leyden crystals and I have seen them in stools but not very often.
Charcot-Leyden crystals. Lovely!
They suggest eosinophils and thus either an allergic reaction or parasitic infection. BW in VT
