Case of the Week 274

The following case was generously provided by Emily Patterson.

These objects were found within a portion of resected intestine in a patient with small bowel obstruction.

OMG!! I don't know what they are but that is a crazy amount of worms!

What a mess of Ascaris lumbricoides. This reminds me of a case of bowel obstruction in 1971 which we counted over 270 worms.

Probably Ascaris lumbricoides, but Ascaris suum could also be considered depending on where this patient lives and exposures to pigs.
