Case of the Week 359

This week's case is from my archive and therefore it's a little yellow around the edges. However, it's still a neat case that I thought you might like:

A 3-cm tan-white structure was passed in the stool from a 30 year old woman and submitted for identification. In the lab, the object was cleared and stained using a carmine stain.  Identification?

It looks like Taenia saginata gravid proglottid

Agree, T. saginata over T. solium because the uterine branches are more than 15.

There are more than 13 lateral uteral branches on each side, therefore I would agree that the object is a gravid proglotid of T. saginata.

T.saginata or (as stated in a previous case) T.asiatica, due to the number of uterine branches. Both species bear identical gross morphology, though T.saginata is more likely.
