We are now shifting gears from microfilariae to something completely different. These organisms were found in a small pond in Minnesota. What are they? Be as specific as possible.

Culex tarsalis larvae - vector for West Nile virus
All I can say is that these are mosquitoes larvae and pupae. I don’t think they are Anopheles, more likely Culex or Aedes spp. These do not transmit malaria, but maybe vectors of viral diseases. Used to net them to feed my Siamese beta fighters.

Culicine mosquito larvae, noting the airtubes and hanging position from surface of water. Based on location, thinking Culex tarsalis, vectors of WNV.
I’m going with Culex pipiens (vector of SLE, et al.) larvae and pupae. Pond (or puddles), roadside ditches. I’m thinking tarsalis is far west, and more associated with agriculture and irrigation.
